Ulissi and Polanc: the Italian rider extends the contract, the Slovenian will debut in August

Diego Ulissi and Jan Polanc, two importart cyclists for the future of LAMPRE-MERIDA.

The Italian athlete, who had joined Saronni’s team in 2010, signed a new two years agreement: he’ll have the chance to reach a top level in a team he knows well and in which he’s very appreciated.

“I’m so happy that LAMPRE-MERIDA gave me the chance to go on riding in the team – Ulissi said – I’d like to thank Saronni, Galbusera family and Merida and I hope I could be able to give them many satisfactions. Since I became pro, I’ve improved my skills, also thanks to the team support: it’s time to win more and I’d like to start in this second part of the season”.

LAMPRE-MERIDA’s roster will be enriched in August by the young Slovenian talent Jan Polanc, born in 1992, who’s racing for Team Radenska. In 2012, he has won Giro del Friuli and he was second in Tour de Slovenia. His debut race will be probably Eneco Tour.

“Ulissi showed his skills are on a top level, so we decided to ask him to be a key member of LAMPRE-MERIDA for the future – Saronni explained – We’re happy he replied with enthusiasm and he accepted to cover a common path in the next two years. Diego has the chance to be protagonist in the most important cycling stages and he’ll be for sure a top rider in Italy. It’s also important to point out that Ulissi, despite he’s only 25 years old, has collected a huge experience and he’ll be able to increase his qualities. Jan Polanc is very young. His skills and the professionality he always shows made us decide to allow him to join the team and the World Tour circuit in August.

Talking about Slovenia, I’m happy to communicate that another very young talent, the National champion Luka Pibernic, is now in the group of athletes we’re going to monitor in order to evaluate if there could be the chance to join the team”.
