Sette Gpm e l’arrivo in salita di La Planche des Belles Filles ridisegnano la classifica generale, riportando Rui Costa (foto Bettini) nelle prime dieci posizioni: il campione del mondo è ora 9°, a 3’58″ da Nibali, tornato in giallo anche grazie alla vittoria di tappa.
Rui Costa ha saputo distribuire in maniera regolare lo sforzo lungo tutte le impegnative salite della 10^tappa, partita a Mulhouse e giunta dopo 161,5 km a La Planche des Belles Filles: frazione corta e infarcita di ascese, difficile da interpretare.
Con un passo costante, il campione del mondo ha tagliato il traguardo al 13° posto, potendo beneficiare anche del supporto del compagno di squadra Horner lungo le pendici dell’ultima ascesa e limitando così il divario da Nibali a 1’06″, scattato a 3 km dall’arrivo.
Lo statunitense della LAMPRE-MERIDA ha poi completato la sua prova al 18° posto (+1’21″), entrando nella top 20 della classifica generale (17°).
A lottare con i migliori non era presente Contador, ritiratosi in seguito a una caduta avvenuta nella discesa del Petit Ballon.
“Il risultato della tappa è stato per Rui e la squadra interlocutorio - ha riassunto il ds Matxin - Qualche secondo è stato perso da corridori come Valverde, Van Garderen e Porte, tutti atleti in questo momento comunque alla portata di Rui. Se si guarda alla classifica, questa situazione è rispecchiata, con il nostro capitano al 9° posto con un divario minimo dai corridori che lo precedono. Questa è una buona prospettiva, perché ci permette di affrontare la seconda settimana con la spinta di voler sempre cercare di migliorare.
Tutti i ragazzi oggi hanno saputo dare il loro contributo, prima Valls, Serpa e Oliveira, poi Durasek nell’approccio all’ultima salita, infine anche Horner”.

Seven Kom and the summit arrival in La Planche des Belles Filles restyled the overall classification of Tour de France at the end of the 10th stage (start in Mulhouse, 161,5 km).
The race was short and full of climbs, so it was important to manage the energies: Rui Costa (photo Bettini) chose to set a regular pace, that gave him the 13th place at the arrival and made him come back to the top 10 of the overall classification: he’s 9th at 3’58″ to Nibali, who won the stage and conquered the yellow jersey thanks to an attack at 3 km to go.
On the final climb, the world champion received the support by his team mate Horner, who crossed the finish line in 18th place (+1’21″).
Among the top riders there was not Contador anymore, because he crashed in the downhill of Petit Ballon and he was forced to quit the race.
“The result of the stage is not bad for Rui and the team: it’s necessary to consider that few seconds are the gap to riders such as Valverde, Van Garderen and Porte that are now on the same level of condition of Rui - sport director Matxin explained - If we analyze the overall classification, the gaps are very short, so it is good that Rui came back to the top ten and that he could still aim to improve his position.
Good performance by the other riders of the team, that supported Rui giving passion and grind”.
