Clasica San Sebastian

No way for Cunego and mates in Clasica San Sebastian, race won by Gilbert thanks to an attack performed at 15 km to go on Alto Arkale.
Gilbert had covered the Alto de Jaizkibel and Alto Arkale in the head group and then, at 3,5 km to go, performed the winning attack that allowed him to reach the arrival with 12″ on Barredo and 14″ on a group of 7 riders (3rd Van Avermaet).
No glory for Lampre-ISD, especially for the captain Cunego, who lost the head group on the second passage on Jaizkibel. Good performances by Mori and Gavazzi, who reached the arrival in the second following group at 2’05″ to the Gilbert: Gavazzi was 14th and Mori 21st.

“I had good feelings in the early part of the race, that’s why my team mates worked on the head of the bunch - Cunego explained - Then, I understood that my legs were not so good and, despite my efforts, I could not be with the top riders on Jaizkibel”.

RACE RESULTS
1st Gilbert  5h48’52″
2nd Barredo  12″
3rd Van Avermaet  14″
4th Rodriguez  s.t.
5th Devenyns  s.t.
14th Gavazzi 2’05″, 21st Mori s.t., 45th Cunego 6’33″, 48th Bertagnolli s.t.
