LAMPRE-MERIDA, 7 cyclists in Rio 2016 and Grmay flag bearer

Seven athletes from LAMPRE-MERIDA will participate in the men’s road race of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad.

On Saturday 6th August, in Rio de Jaineiro, Brazil, these seven blue-fuchsia-green riders will fight for a medal: Yukiya Arashiro (Japan), Kristijan Durasek (Croatia), Rui Alberto Faria da Costa (Portugal), Tsgabu Grmay (Ethiopia), Louis Meintjes (South Africa), Matej Mohoric (Slovenia) and Jan Polanc (Slovenia).

Tsgabu Grmay will live an extraordinary experience: the African rider, after he had been the first cyclist from Ethiopia to participate in the Tour de France, will have the honor to be the flag bearer for his Country in the opening cerimony of the Games (Friday 5th August, 7,15 pm Rio de Jaineiro time).
“The mix of happiness and pride makes gives me a great feeling about being the flag bearer for my Country – Grmay commented – The participation in the Tour de France brought me a lot of amazing things, the role of flag bearer included: I’d like to thanks LAMPRE-MERIDA and all the team’s members for the opportunities they gave me“.

The road race (255 km of distance) will start from Fort Copacabana and the cyclists will cover a sector before entering in a circuit to be covered four times; another sector will connect to a second circuit to be covered twice (demanding hill of Vista Chinesa), before the final 20 km to the arrival.

The race will start at 9,30 am (Rio de Jaineiro time).
